Accommodation

Only a few cities in China can compete with hotels in Shanghai regarding the range of selection and services. Every visitor may find the appropriate form of accomodation from cheap B&B’s to exclusive luxury hotels.

Still, it has to be mentioned that, due to the strong interest for the World Expo, room rates are going to be increased by some 20 percent, according to the data released on ctrip.com. (The figure is based on the prices already announced by about 80 percent of Shanghai's hotels.)

Price increase will apply first to cheaper hotels, since thesea re the most popular choices for average visitors. Despite the increase, accommodation in Shanghai still can be considered as cheap.

Average room rates:

Two-star hotel – 250 yuans ($37)
Three-star hotel – 370 yuans ($54)
Four-star hotel – 700 yuans ($110)
Five-star hotel – 1,400 yuans ($220)

A total of 550,000 beds are available in Shanghai in order to accommodate the wave of visitors during Expo 2010. Further hotels are at disposal in the nearby cities as well.
