Zhang Zhi Jum, Deputy Foreign Minister of Chine paid a non-official visit to the Hungarian Pavilion on 14 August. Deputy Minister Zhang is an old friend of Hungary, he visited Budapest several times, and also received high ranking Hungarian guests in China. Of the Central and Eastern European Countries he only visited Hungary’s pavilion during his short attendance to the Expo. He was welcomed by Consul General László Kuti and the leaders of the pavilion.

The Hungarian Pavilion received Liu Xue Pu, Deputy Lord Mayor of Chongqing in the same delegation. Earlier this year Hungary established a new consulate general in the city, which has nearly 33 million inhabitants. The city of Chongqing pays extraordinary attention and support to the consulate general. The Deputy Lord Mayor visited the Hungarian Pavilion in terms of this approach. He had constructive talks about the future of Hungarian-Chinese relations with Consul General László Kuti.

Deputy Lord Mayor Liu Xue Pu informed that the Chinese Government develops a number of giant cities, also considered as economic centers, throughout China, along a conscious strategy. The most significant examples are the Shenzen-centered development zone of the Pearl-delta, the development zone of the Yangtze-delta through the dynamism of Shanghai’s Pudong district in the 1990s, and the Boha Bay development zone in the 2000s, whose center is Tianjin. In terms of the Western China Development Plan declared by the Chinese Government, the city development program of the next ten years will be implemented in Chongqing. Therefore the Deputy Mayor appreciated the wise decision, and also praised the successful exhibition of the Hungarian Pavilion.
